(MEDORA, ND) – The Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation (TRMF) invites members of the media to a press event to release a brand-new book chronicling Theodore Roosevelt’s time ranching in the Badlands. The book is titled, Roosevelt’s Ranches, and was authored by Medora historian, Rolf Sletten.
Theodore Roosevelt – as reprised by the renowned Joe Wiegand – will speak about the impact his time ranching in Dakota had on his life and Presidency – a time he later recalled was the “romance” of his life.
The release of Roosevelt’s Ranches will be held:
Thursday, April 28, 2016, 10:00 a.m.
North Dakota Heritage Center, Great Plains Theater
612 E Boulevard Ave, Bismarck, ND
Roosevelt’s Ranches was commissioned to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of our National Park System that Roosevelt shaped so much and as an addition to the Sletten’s recent publication, the popular coffee table book titled, Medora: Boom, Bust, and Resurrection. That publication took readers through the many phases and fables of Historic Medora, now North Dakota’s #1 Tourist Destination.
TRMF representatives will speak at the event, before Theodore Roosevelt himself and Sletten share their thoughts about our 26th President’s time in Dakota Territory.
Sletten will also read a short excerpt from the new book before presenting signed copies to four special recipients:
- Claudia Berg – ND State Historical Society – to preserve the book in State archives
- Wendy Ross – Theodore Roosevelt National Park
- John Hild – long-time rancher who owns and operates Theodore Roosevelt’s former Maltese Cross Ranch south of Medora
- Valerie Naylor as an honored collaborator on the book’s research
All participants will be available to media following the program.
Roosevelt’s Ranches will be available for purchase at the North Dakota Heritage Center Museum Store, in Bismarck, ND, as well as at the Chateau de Mores Interpretive Center and other retail outlets in Medora, ND. It will also be available for purchase on MEDORA.COM
