This Coffee Table Book Makes

the Best Christmas Present

This past summer, we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Medora Musical, which first showed — wooden plank seating, dirt floors and all — on July 1, 1965. It was a great season with so many favorites that took us down memory lane.

But the super fun flashbacks don’t have to end there; in the fan-favorite coffee table book, MEDORA MUSICAL: THE FIRST 50 YEARS, you can take a stroll through all of the years since the show’s beginning — with large photos, play bills, and commentary from the pioneers of our show to bring you right back to the very first day in the seats of the Medora Musical.

Plus, this new coffee table book is the perfect gift for Christmas! You can order it right here.

To wet your appetite, here’s a little preview from 1974! READ MORE »

Dinner and a Show — just how Harold did it in 1965

50 years ago, Harold Schafer embarked upon building what we know today as the Medora Musical — a show we North Dakotans are proud to call our own, that has now entertained nearly 4 Million people. One of the very first things Harold did to bring guests to his new show was rent charter busses and fill them up with curious folks from Bismarck-Mandan, telling them he was taking them to “Dinner and a show!”

For one day only, September 11, the final Friday of the 50th Anniversary Season of the Medora Musical, we’re bringing back one of Harold’s first ideas to promote the Medora Musical.

Thanks to our friends at Harlow’s Trailways and iHeart Media Bismarck, you can jump on the Harlow’s Harold Bus to Medora, see the show on the final Friday of the season, and sleep in your own bed that same night (although it’ll be a little late after all that fun.)

This One Day Trip Includes

  • Round trip, same-day charter travel to Medora — leave and return on Friday, September 11
  • FREE and exclusive greeting from Medora Musical Cast and TRMF President Randy Hatzenbuhler
  • Dinner at the world-famous Pitchfork Steak Fondue
  • FREE Medora Musical Behind the Scenes Tour
  • Lower level, group seating to the Medora Musical, the “Greatest Show in the West!” for the final Friday of the Medora Musical

The Harold Schafer documentary “Mr. Bubble” will air on the bus en route to Medora. Other bus amenities include: Free WiFi, restroom, reclining seats, DVD entertainment & 110 volt outlets.

Jared Mason, Former Medora Musical Cast Member, to put on a solo concert July 25 – July 31.

JaredMasonny-4

(Medora, ND) – The Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation, is proud to announce that Jared Mason, a former cast member of the Medora Musical, will be in Medora for daily concert engagements July 25 – July 31.

The solo concert will be a hot ticket in Medora. Mason — an award-winning recording artist, composer, and actor, most recently starred on Broadway as Jerry Lee Lewis in the Tony Award winning musical, “Million Dollar Quartet” — has promised a mix of original music, some Jerry Lee Lewis, a classic yodel, and a reprisal of two songs from his days in the Medora Musical that guests still request every year – “I Am Free” and “Joy.”

Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation President, Randy Hatzenbuhler said “Jared is one of the all-time favorites to have performed in Medora and is one of the most accomplished performers among our alumni.”

Mason was a Burning Hills Singer from 1993 to 1998 (then known as Jared Lillis) and then returned to the Medora Musical as Jared Mason to star on the keyboard in 2007.

JaredMasonBW-4812

Prior to boogying with Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Elvis every night in “Million Dollar Quartet,” Jared coaxed captivating rhythms out of everyday objects in the International Percussion Sensation, “STOMP.” His debut album, “She Believes in Me,” won album of the year at the Los Angeles Music Awards. Jared is delighted to be returning to his favorite place in the west for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Medora Musical.

Hatzenbuhler said Mason will perform daily at the Old Town Hall at 1:00 pm MDT, July 25 to July 31. Seating is limited in the 150 seat historic theater and tickets can be purchased for $10 by calling 1-800-MEDORA-1 or at medora.com.
